Capturing more energy from the sun than ever before

At Cosmos, we’re building the world’s first AI-driven tandem solar cell factories.

Solar innovation supercharged by AI

Our AI platform — Mobius — is uniquely capable of discovering the combination of materials, processes, and architectures that yields the most efficient solar cells. More about Mobius

Spotlight:

Driving the S curve of tandem solar cell technology

Integrating Mobius into the fabric of our self-learning factories will ensure every new generation of cells is optimized and improved based on data from those that came before — helping the S curve of tandem technology reach higher than ever before.

OUR MISSION:

We’re on a mission to build the world’s most cost-effective, high-efficiency solar cells.

Then:

Mobius is the first and only AI-powered optimization platform dedicated to recipe development for the solar/semiconductor industry.

Now:

A proven technological approach with strong validation from semiconductor industry leaders.

Next:

Our AI-first self learning factories will produce the world’s most efficient solar cells.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

The laws of physics tell us that the efficiency of silicon solar cells will soon plateau.

No matter how much we try, that efficiency will top out at around 27% for practical purposes.

There is an urgent need for low-cost, high-efficiency solar technology to fuel a fast-growing market ($260B TAM by 2030) driven by the global transition to renewable energy.

Thankfully, physics also tells us that perovskite and silicon, when layered in tandem, increases the practical limit to 36% - driving this S curve will represent the most significant efficiency growth in the history of solar.

OUR AI PLATFORM

Mobius is behind it all

Our AI platform — Mobius — is uniquely capable of discovering the combination of materials, processes, and architectures that yields the most efficient solar cells.

Mobius can overcome significant combinatorial optimization challenges and respond dynamically to new data. It has enabled a 10X speedup in process recipe development time and step-function improvements in target performance metrics during demonstrations with leading semiconductor companies.

Vijay Chandrasekhar

CEO and Co-founder

Vijay Chandrasekhar, is co-founder and CEO of Cosmos Innovation (previously called SQ4.0), an AI-first company building next-generation solar and semiconductor technologies. Vijay got his Ph.D. at Stanford, and BS & MS at Carnegie Mellon University.

Prior to Cosmos, he led AI at the Institute for Infocomm Research, A*STAR, Singapore, where he built and led a 150-person AI team and managed a portfolio of 50 AI projects across 10 domains, where semiconductors was a key focus area, with customer engagements spanning leading fabs, equipment suppliers and metrology companies. At I2R/A*STAR, Vijay also led key strategic planning and fundraising efforts over a complex portfolio of programs.

Vijay's previous stints include Google Research, and Nokia Research Center. He has extensive experience in building large-scale engineering systems, with over 120 technical publications in a range of top conferences and journals.

Joel Li

CTO and Co-Founder

Joel Li is our Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO). He received his Ph.D., Ph.D. Minor, and M.S. degrees from Stanford University. After graduating from Stanford, Joel joined the Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore and quickly rose to Group Head. He built up and led a team focused on developing commercial solar cell technologies. Under his leadership, the team developed an award-winning process technology and was recognized as one of the Top 25 PV Manufacturing Innovations. The technology received strong interest from industry and a license was sold to the world’s leading solar cell manufacturer.

Joel was AI team lead at Agency of Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), where his expertise in AI and Semiconductor enabled him to lead the development and deployment of AI solutions for tier-1 manufacturers and R&D institutes in the semiconductor, material, and chemical domains. He has also worked in leading solar cell manufacturer, Hanwha, where he was involved in the development of advanced high efficiency solar cell technologies in the US.

Joel was invited to serve as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and he currently teaches AI, covering both theory and real-world applications, as well as the challenges and implications of this rapidly evolving field.
